This exhibition considers 14 large beechwood tablets lettered with Koranic suras by the artist and calligrapher Shahid Alam. Shahid Alam was born in Lahore/Pakistan and has been working as a freelance artist in Aachen since 1994.
The suras calligraphed in ink onto the tablets render Koranic passages which display affinities with passages from the Old and New Testaments. Shahid Alam does not imitate an Arab style of writing but, over the years, has developed a distinct personal style based on his experience.
